Yes, Timur brought an enormous army with him on his campaign to Asia Minor in which he defeated the Ottomans and the Mamelukes. However, that army was aggregated from various parts of his empire. For most of his rule, Timur and his predecessor Genghis Khan typically would deploy relatively small, mobile forces that could rapidly transverse the vast stretches of Central Asia. One of the primary secrets to Timur and Genghis Khan's military successes was their access to huge herds of horses that were raised on the seemingly infinite grasslands of the Russian steppes in what is now Kazakhstan. When Genghis Khan conquered the region north of the Black Sea in modern-day Ukraine and Russia, he moved an army of about 80,000 through Central Asia for about 2,500 miles in a matter of just a few weeks. That remains the longest overland military campaign in the history of warfare -- quite a feat.
