I was in a 6.0 earthquake in Bishop, CA, that lasted just under one minute. And that felt like an eternity. I've also been to Hilo and have seen several memorials about the 1960 tsunami generated by the Chilean quake that killed 65 people there. That tsunami lead to the development of the statewide tsunami warning system in Hawaii and that has been adopted throughout the world since.
