I know. Me too. But in these cultures, haggling is a thing. And expected. A couple years ago, I was on a catamaran cruise on the Turkish coast with Sonya and her cousins. We stopped at a small restaurant in an isolated bay. They had fresh fish and I went to pick out the fish for our dinner. The fish monger suggested a particular whole fish and the price. Sounded reasonable. So I said sure. Sonya's cousin arrived and the two started speaking in Turkish. Their voices grew louder and they became wildly animated to the point I thought they were going to start exchanging blows. I began to worry and was just about to step between them when, suddenly, the arguing stopped. The pair laughed, shook hands, and the fish monger began quietly preparing two different fish four our dinner. Turns out the fish he first recommended to me was from yesterday's catch. He was trying to pawn it off on me, and at an exorbitant price, to boot. Also, arguing with a vendor is part of the process to getting the best deal and the best fish. It's just how they roll. Pretty hilarious to watch. The fish was excellent, BTW.
