Great review of one of the major events of human history that most people don't want to think about, much less know about. I too grew up in a nuclear family. Both my uncle and father-in-law flew in the Strategic Air Command during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Both have said many times that the planet came perilously close to nuclear Armageddon. Additionally, I grew up in Northern Nevada and Eastern California, not too far from the country's major nuclear test site. I recall many times when my dad would call us into the living room and declare, "OK, there's going to be a nuclear test at 7:10 a.m. We should feel something by about 7:12." We'd all stand around and wait. Then like clockwork, the house would shake and rumble for about 10 to 15 seconds. We were around 150 to 200 miles from the blast site, just to give you an idea of the power of these bombs. Crazy.
