Great advice and a nice piece -- something I've been meaning to write about as well. I actually use my photos as a prompt for my stories on Medium. In other words, my photos come first, and then the article. During my travels, I'll take photos of someplace interesting and/or historic with a vague notion of a future story in mind. When I return home, I'll assemble between three to five of my best photos of the place/topic and write a story around it. The end result, in my opinion, is something far more original, creative and interesting for the reader than a bland, slapdash, non-serious, non-relevant stock image. Additionally, photography isn't that hard. Anyone can do it. You don't have to be Ansel Adams. Just a grasp of the basics will place you lightyears beyond the curse of the bland stock image.
