Yes, my approach to this piece was a bit fanciful in that it riffs on all the zombie movies and shows that have become so prominent in popular culture today. Of course, I don't believe that long-dead Roman legionnaires will rise from the dead to wreak havoc on the Middle East. But I do think the story of Ezekiel was used as a kind of religious propaganda by Roman leaders and generals in order to assuage their troops' fear of death in battle. This is after all, primarily a military graveyard. One of my impressions from visiting this site and researching what it was all about was that the notion of resurrection and life-after-death has been floating around for millennia -- long before Christians attached that notion to the story of Jesus. As for Ezekiel, he was pretty heck-bent with his fantasies of raising an army from the dead and re-capturing Israel for his tribe of exiled Jews. Let's just hope those Roman legions stay put. We have enough trouble on our hands with the current players in the Middle East. We don't need to add Roman zombies to the mix.
