Excellent piece. And, FWIW, I was going to write a similar article with pretty much the exact same sentiments. I'm hugely disappointed in Medium. For some reason, I was under the impression that it was a platform for long-form, quality writing, distinct from the vagaries of social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, etc. Instead, it has devolved into a cesspool of drivel where supremely untalented typists spill out whatever nonsense happens to be bouncing around in their noggin that day. There is scant poetry or prose in anyone's writing here. There is little professionalism or craft. And it proves once again that not everyone can or should be a writer, just as not everyone can or should be an accountant, engineer or doctor. No one would ever approach a business owner and say, "Hey, I just rolled out of bed this morning and declared myself an accountant. Mind if I take the spreadsheet of your financial projections for a spin?" Like the author here, I, too, have spent years honing my craft. I actually have a degree in English and spent time memorizing the AP Stylebook while a reporter for a major daily newspaper. I have two books with major publishing houses under my belt and two more on the way. I was initially attracted to Medium because I thought it was a place I could craft and post meaningful stories without the time and hassle required of either creating my own website/blog and/or pitching magazine editors, who are diminishing in number by the day. So, kudos to Mr. Yeung for pointing this out. And shame on Medium for managing to let the platform sink below the level of mediocrity.
